George and Lucy moved from Temple Hill Kentucky to Dawson Nebraska around 1897. It was in Dawson that both Chester and Geneva were born before the family moved back to Temple Hill. They were eventually able to buy the family farm after Lucy's father passed away. They are buried in the family cemetery (Anderson Cemetery) on this farm.
Chester married Ada Hale in 1929 and had five children; George Richard Word, Virginia Maxine Word Welsh, Parthenia Joyce Word Melton, Billy Hale Word and Bobby Joe Word. They purchased a small farm in Temple Hill. In addition to tending the farm and family, Chester would cut hay for neighboring farmers and Ada would "take in" laundry.
Chester and Ada divorced in 1960 and Chester remained on the farm for most of the remainder of his life.
