December 13, 1902 - Olympia Chronicle, Olympia, Thurston Co., Washington
Death of a Respected Citizen of Bucoda.
Special correspondence to The Chronicle.
On Dec. 3, William Davies, of Bucoda, died a peaceful death from old age. Deceased was born in South Wales on the 30th of August 1820. He came to America 40 years later where he engaged in coal mining in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky and Indian territory. In 1886 he removed to Bucoda where he acquired considerable property and resided up to the day of his death. Of a kind and generous disposition he never refused the helping hand in time of need, he was held in high esteem by all who knew him. An aged wife and two sons, Robert and William, are left to mourn his loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. Hopkins, of South Union, and interment took place in the Bucoda cemetery.
Oh why should the spirit of mortal be proud
Like a fast flying meteor, swift fleeting wave;
A flash of the lighting, a break of the wave;
Man passes from life to his rest in the grave.
