Ima Jean Abernathy, 81, of Connersville, died Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Lincoln Centers East.
Born January 1, 1930 in Connersville to Denver and Beulah Fowler Powell, she was raised in Dayton, Ohio, and graduated from Roosevelt High School. On June 8, 1963, Ima Jean was married to Donald Abernathy who died January 2, 1983. She had been employed as a secretary at Stant Manufacturing. Ima Jean was a member of Central Christian Church.
Survivors include her son: Ronald Thompson formerly of Union, Ohio; aunts and uncles; her caregiver: Donna Sue Handley of Connersville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Mary Kay Smith, uncles and aunts, including Winnie Richardson.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 12:00 p.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Richie Ware of the Church of Higher Praise and Worship officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service where memorial contributions may be made to Community Sharing Food Pantry.
