Dr. J.Z. Bailey, dentist in Conway since 1912, died in a Conway hospital at 4:00 a.m., August 1, 1947. He had entered the hospital July 21.

Born at Sebree, Ky, in 1882, he served a brief time in the U.S. Army in early manhood and was stationed in the Philippines. He was educated at the University of Louisville, came to Arkansas, practiced first in a small Arkansas town and later moved to Conway.

Dr. Bailey was interested in politics, state and nation. He once served as a justice of the peace of Cadron Township and as city alderman.

Baseball was his hobby, and he was one of the most ardent followers of the Little Rock Travelers.

His widow, Mrs. Kate Hankins Bailey, also was a native of Sebree, and they were married November 16, 1910, in Clark County, Ind., before settling in Conway. They had no children but reared one of Dr. Bailey's nephews, John P. Bailey, Jr., who was living in North Little Rock at the time of Dr. Bailey's death.

Also surviving were four brothers, John P. and P.C. Bailey of Sebree; F.M. Bailey of Van Nuys, Cal., and J.M. Bailey of Indianapolis; four sisters, Mrs. Vernon Sullinger of Booneville, Ind.; Mrs. Lula Clark, Mrs. Catherine Cavanaugh, and Mrs. William Orr Callis, all of Sebree.
