ATTICA, March 23 – The will of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sherman D. Clegg of Dayton, O., formerly of Attica, contains a bequest of $400,000 to Blackburn college, Carlinville, Ill., according to word received here. The Cleggs became interested in the school from reading a magazine article about it. The bequest was disclosed by Robert P. Ludlum, president of the school. He said $100,000 was given for the maintenance of the college chapel and for religious purposes, and the remaining $300,000 as a general endowment. The college, organized in 1837, has an enrollment of 335 students and has a staff of 29 teachers. Clegg associated with the Sterling Remedy company and went to Wheeling, W. Va, with that concern in 1909 and from there to Dayton, O. in 1936. Clegg died in 1948 and Mrs. Clegg in 1949.
