DeWitt Comer, 48, of 1175 Mariposa street, died in a local hospital Friday night after suffering a stroke. He was appointed city garbage inspector two weeks ago. Prior to taking the position, he had operated a bus for the Beaumont City lines for 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Comer; a daughter, Mrs. G.L. Hughes, both of this city; two sons, Ray, of Beaumont and Lt. W.B. Comer, of the Navy; three sisters, Mrs. L.H. Fennell of Gilmer, Mrs. V. Francis of Houston and Mrs. Jack Dowell of Beaumont; three brothers, D.E., C.P. and W.R. Comer, all of Vivian, La. Funeral services will be announced by Williams Funeral home.
