BARKER Robert Leonard, best known as Bob, finally ended his stubborn fight for life and gave in to the peaceful slumber of death. After 78 years of life, we will now longer hear the loud, bellowing, friendly voice of this admirable man. Bob was born on August 29, 1920 in Ogden, Utah. At the age of 13, after the death of his parents, Bob went to live with his older sister Edith and her husband, Frank Colvin on their ranch in Huntsville, Utah, in the Wasatch mountains which loom over Ogden. On the ranch is where Bob learned his extraordinary work ethic from Frank, "the big red Swede" Colvin. Bob often told us of his memories of life on the ranch. At the age of 18, Bob enlisted in the US Army Air Force and was stationed at Will Rogers Field. It was during this time that he met his wife to be, Sybil Cornett, at a local dance. Sybil was never impressed with Bob's dancing, but was impressed with his personage and tenacity. They were married on November 13, 1943, and later sealed in the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah. A life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Brother Barker served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, District High Council member, and Stake High Council member, and was an avid supporter ofthe Boy Scouts of America and served as a Leader of Troop 85. Bob was also proud to be a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 344, and was recently honored for 50 years of service. He was also self-proclaimed Block Mayor of Cashion Place. Bob issurvived by his wife, Sybil; son Richard Barker and wife, Debra; daughter, Susan Manley and husband, Stan; son, Gary Barker and wife, Karen; grandchildren Chad & Breanne Barker, Ian and Patrick Moore, Abe and Rye Barker, and great-grandsons, Dylan andJaxson. Sister June Georgi, nephews, Don, Robert and Gary Colvin; and other numerous nieces and nephews of 11 predeceased brothers and sisters. Bob loved life and people. He will be missed by so many that a personal saying of his "never mind the dead, lets think about the living", will be contradicted. Our thoughts and memories of you will not die. Funeral services will be held at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5020 NW 63rd on Monday April 19, 1999 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Troop 85 BSA, or the LDS Missionary Fund, 5020 NW 63rd Oklahoma City, OK 73132.
