"...Almeda A. Moorhead was born 1823 in Lincoln Coun-
ty. She married Charles Wheaton Elam, son of William
Jefferson and Cynthia Lucy (Wheaton) Elam. They had
4 sons and 2 daughters. Almeda died 1857; the following
year, Charles was killed by Comanche Indians near his
home by Stampede Mountain, Coryell County. The six
Elam children then lived with their grandparents, William
and Frances (Moorhead)..."
