Mr. Howard Edward Weaver, Sr., 98, of LaFayette died Wednesday morning June 13, 2012 at his home.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Baxter Chism officiating.
Mr. Weaver is survived by his four sons, Howard Edward "Eddie" (Sherry) Weaver, Jr., of Winter Garden, FL, Larry Calvin (Sondra) Weaver of Huntsville, Robert Danny Weaver of Birmingham, and Charles Frank Weaver of Auburn; two sisters, Thelma Pool and Joyce Fingerhut; granddaughters, Laurie Weaver, Rachel Weaver, and Ashley Guin.
Mr. Weaver was born on January 14, 1914, the son of Robert Gibson Weaver and Carrie Dell Belcher Weaver. He was preceded in death by his wife Calvin Abercrombie Weaver to whom he had been married for 65 years, two brothers Durell Weaver and Calvin Coolidge Weaver; three sisters, Lausie Weaver, Gladys Callahan and Doris Pledger.
Mr. Weaver was an active member of the Chapel Hill Church for over 50 years. He was a proud veteran having served 20 years in the Army, serving in active combat duty in Europe during World War II where he sustained a significant injury to his hearing. He served in the Korean War from Japan as a mechanic maintaining the war equipment. His tours of duty included Panama, Japan, Korea, Ft. Benning, GA (two tours), Ft. Rucker, AL, Ft. Still, OK, Dachau, Germany, retiring in 1960. Since that time he has been a farmer in the Penton Community of Chambers County raising cotton, corn and cattle. Mr. Weaver was an avid sportsman hunting quail with his sons and his friends every year he could.
