Died of Apoplexy
The citizens of Laurens were shocked to hear at an early date last Thursday morning of the death of mrs. Lydia Born a woman respected in this community. She and her daughter lived on mainstreet and she conducteda bakery. At about 6 o'clock that morning she arose and fixed the fire in the range and got several tins of bread ready to bake. She returned to the bed where her daughter was sleeping, and laid down. About seven o'clock her daughter was awakened by the hard breathing of her mother, and attempted to arouse her. Alarmed by her failure to do so she ran to Mr. Filer who lives in another part of the house and also summoned Dr. F.L. Winsor. Mrs. Brown was beyond help when Mr. Filer arrived and died before the physician reached the house.
Coroner Van Vechten of Oneonta was notified and came at once, but on learning the circumstances deemed an inquest unnecessary. Mrs. Borwn was the widow of Wellington Brown and was 59 years of age. She has always resided in otsego county and was born at Westville. For ten years she has lived at Laurens. Besides the daughter Ida, she leaves five sisters. her health was apparently good. The cause of her death was apoplexy. She was a member of the methodist church. The funeral was held at her late home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Austin Griffin, D.D. of Oneonta, assisted by the Rev. Mr. McChesney of this place officiating. Interment in the village cemetery.
