Funeral servics for Virgil L. Reed, 60, of Spirit Lake, were held Thursday, Aug. 2, 1984, 1:30 p.m. at the Donovan-Leyson Funeral Home, in Spirit Lake, with Rev. John Poe officiating. Reed died Monday, July 30, 1984 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital following a heart attack.
Mrs. Onalee Elston, organist, accompanied the congregation as they sang "In The Garden." Pallbearers were Jerry Pedley, Elton Frost, Virg Hoffman, Marlyn Ellis, John McCann and Franklin Little. Interment was in the Spirit Lake Memorial Gardens.
Virgil LeRoy Reed was born to Arley L. Reed and Mabel Owens Reed at Jackson County, MN., on Aug. 3, 1923. He attended school at Arnolds Park, graduating in 1941.
On May 8, 1945 he married Irene Bendixen at Jackson, MN. Two children were born to this union.
Reed farmed for 21 years east of Arnolds Park. He worked as a maintenance man at the former Holiday Inn for one year and as a maintenance man at McQuay's for 17 years. He was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church and was active in Boy Scouts, the American Legion and yard work.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Spirit Lake; father, Arley, of Milford; daughter, Janet Larsen, of Albert Lea, MN.; granddaughters, Jamie Lee Reed, of Spirit Lake, Shane Marie and Stacie Jo Larsen, of Albert Lea, MN.
He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Joe, in 1966 and his mother, Mabel, in 1982.
The Donovan-Leyson Funeral Home, in Spirit Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
