James (Pat) Finchum, 70, 224 E. Memorial Drive, died at his home Thursday following an extended illness. He was born in Tallahoma, Tenn., and came to Muncie in 1918.

Mr. Finchum retired from Warner Gear in 1970 after 37 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local 287 and was past president of the Labor Center. He belonged to the Sympathy Club of Warner Gear, The Lost Chord Club, the Kidney Foundation and the Muncie Horseshoe Club. Mr. Finchum was also a special police officer and was instrumental in organizing the Buddy basketball and baseball leagues. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union.

He and his wife, Beatrice, would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 8.

Surviving besides his wife are five sons, James Jr., Carl, Bill, Jack and Albert Finchum, all of Muncie; three daughters, Mrs. Peggy Luna, Brawly, Calif., Mrs. Janet Cooper, Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Betty Slaven, Muncie; one brother, Kenneth Finchum, Zephyr Hills, Fla.; 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Church of Christ in Christian Union with Rev. John O'Brien officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday or one hour prior to services Monday.
