John Harland Aanderud was a man of integrity, honesty and loyalty. John loved life and cherished his family and friends. He was looking forward to retiring this year so he could spend more time with them all, travel, spoil his grandchildren and enjoy the rest of his life with his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Chris.

John was born in Portland on March 27, 1948, to Gloria and Harland Aanderud. He was a Southeast Portland boy all of his life. He went to Woodstock Grade school and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1966. He proudly and honorably served his country in the Army's 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lightning, during the Vietnam War. He received both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal. Upon returning home, he continued his education, receiving a bachelor's degree from Portland State University.

John worked at the Charles H. Day Company since 1971, which he owned and operated since 1992. John married Christine Gattuccio Dec. 23, 1972. They had two beautiful children, Eric and Celia, whom he loved dearly and was a wonderful father to. John hit the links, rain or shine, every opportunity he had - he hit a hole in one at Eastmoreland Golf Course in December of 2002. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent much of his life camping, fishing and clamming. Some of his family's best memories include waking up at the crack of dawn during the family's Labor Day Seaside vacation and sleepily following John along the Oregon Coast digging for clams. He cheered the kids on and even tossed a clam or five into the not-so-successful little clammers' buckets. John was an enthusiastic leader of family traditions.

He and his wife, Chris, made everyone feel at home. He is survived by his wife, Christine; children, Eric and Celia Yenchik; grandchildren, Audrey, Skipper and Gianna; brother, Curt. We miss you immensely, John, Dad, Grandpa
