Warren Mike Barrett
Warren "Mike" Barrett, 84, of North Platte, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Premier Estates in North Platte. He was born August 21, 1927 to C.J. and Mattie E. (Hill) Barrett in North Platte, NE.
He was a lifelong resident and graduated from North Platte High School. He married Bette J. Hawkins at Oberlin, Kansas on April 5, 1946. He was a butcher for Armour Meat Packing and also taught guitar and music. He served as workshop director for North Platte Opportunity Center for over 30 years. He was a Life member of the North Platte Musicians Association. Mike had a keen interest in rodeo, particularly the bull riding event and for many years played the steel guitar in his brother Hadley Barrett''s Western Swing Band.
Survivors include one son, Michael Barrett, of Denver, CO; two brothers, Robert Barrett of North Platte and Hadley Barrett of Kersey, CO; one sister, Wilma Loftus of Howells, NE; long-time friend, Rosemary Binder and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bette; sisters, Maureen Van Buren, Millie Ulmer, and one brother, Jay Barrett. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the North Platte Opportunity Center and online condolences may be shared at www.carpentermemorial.com. Services were Wednesday, January 18 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
