According to Helen Neal, her father, John Jr, was adopted into the Vining family. He was born in 1870, before Rhue and John Sr married, which lends credence to Helen's account that John Jr was adopted or was a stepchild.
On 27Nov1887 in Adams County, Rhue remarried to John M. Elliott. He worked as a shoemaker. I'm working to establish if memorial #94930936 was Rhue Ann's husband.
On the 1880 census, Rhue was 42 and born in OH. Her parents were both born in PA. John Sr was born in New York, according to this census, and his father was born in MA and his mother in NY. He was 65 and a farmer in Wabash, Indiana.
Rhue's name is seen spelled many different ways, among them, "Rheann" and "Rhena" and "Rhou".
I've personally visited her gravesite and it is unmarked.
