Melissa was the daughter of David and Ida Mae Foster Voorhees. She and her first husband, Howard Best had one child, Natalie Ruth Best Lauler. Following the death of Howard, Melissa married Kenneth Cooper. Kenneth and Melissa owned and operated Cooper's Drug Store in Point Pleasant for many years.
