T/Sgt William C Amason, born in 1915 in Alabama, was from Hamilton County, Ohio. He enlisted 17 Oct 1942 at Cincinnati, Ohio. He left a wife, Hazel, in Boaz, Alabama. On 4 April 1945, the day T/Sgt Amason was killed in action, elements of the 56th AIB of the 12th AD had just seized the bridge over the River Main between Marktbreit and Segnitz. Marktbreit is just southeast of Wurzburg, 56 miles northwest of Nuremberg. They were ordered to move southeast toward Wasserndorf and Seinshieim. Sniper fire and tank fire from positions along the creek slowed the advance. They spent the night at Iffigheim just north of Wasserndorf.
