He was born Aug. 9, 1951, in Hancock, a son of the late Albert and Ann (Pavolich) Butkovich. Albert was a graduate of Houghton High School.
On Aug. 10, 1970, he married Mary Dolores Pintar in Calumet.
Mr. Butkovich worked at the White Pine Copper Mine until it closed then worked for Copper Country Mental Health as a resident care provider in the Stepping Stones Group Home in Houghton until his illness.
Albert was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hancock.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a grandson, Axel Butkovich.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Dolores Butkovich of Houghton; four sons, Aaron Butkovich of Houghton, Nolan (Jamie) Butkovich of Whitefish, Mont., Jeremy (Lori) Butkovich of Waverly, Minn. and Logan (Maleah) Butkovich of Montrose, Minn.; six daughters, Lynn (Layne) Massie of Kalispell, Mont., Jodi Holmes of Houghton, Elena (Josh) Aczas of Kalispell, Mont., Lori (Tony) Homola of Waverly, Minn., Juliana (Seth) Simonson of Battle Ground, Wash. and Emily Butkovich of Houghton; 42 grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters, Veronica (Gary) Simmons and Valerie (Michael) Lind of Ontonagon and Virginia Bastian of Houghton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hancock with Steven Korpela to officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the church and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery.
