According to the United Daughters of the Confederacy, John Holland Reddell enlisted in the Confederate Cavalry at Marion County, Arkansas on August 3, 1861. He served as a Private in Captain Scott's Company "B", Colonel Mitchell's First Batallion, Arkansas Cavalry. He was wounded in the Battle of Pea Ridge / Elkhorn Tavern on March 8, 1862. He was sent home, but never could recover and eventually died as a result of his wounds on March 18, 1863. His burial site is unknown, but is probably near his home in Cave Creek, Newton, Arkansas.
