Nellie Copeland was born on August 7, 1921, in Sallisaw, OK, to Marion Washington & Georgia Ann (Valyer) Atkerson. She departed this life on Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Pryor, OK, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, & 9 days.
Growing up, Nellie attended school in the Sallisaw area. On October 9, 1937, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Nellie and Arvil Odel Copeland were united in marriage. They lived in Tucson, AZ for some time, until making Locust Grove their home in 1980. Arvil preceded his wife in death on March 7, 2002, having been married for over 64 years.
Nellie had worked some time for the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Chouteau as a nurse's assistant. She had also worked for the Simmons Chicken Processing Plant in Siloam Springs. Nellie had been a part of the Hogan Free Will Baptist Church in Locust Grove. She enjoyed crocheting, shopping, & liked to travel. Nellie loved God & enjoyed attending & singing in church. She worked hard raising her 8 children & will be missed by all that loved & cared for her.
Nellie is survived by six children: Alfred; Wilfred; Lou and husband; Jerry and wife; Terry and wife; Bobby; 27 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; one brother Lee; two sisters: Dean and husband Travis and Inez.
Nellie was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two daughters: Nancy Ann Tate and Mary Jane Cooper; and three brothers Durwood, Frank and Paul.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove. Reverend Travis Martin will officate. Services have been entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
