Mrs. Emaline Byers, wife of Samuel Byers, died of general debility yesterday at 10.15 a. m. , at her home on North Sixth street. She was ill for about three months, although not confined to bed all the time. Yesterday morning, however, she failed to come downstairs, as had been her usual custom, and her daughter, Miss Pearl Byers went to her bedroom only to find her condition very unfavorable, yet she was conscious to the end, dying in the full hope of blessed immortality. She was a life member of the United Brethren church.
She was the daughter of of Joseph and Anna (Stricker) Burd, and was born in Juniata township, August 4, 1845. About 50 years ago she married Samuel Byers, to whom she bore thirteen children, two of whom are dead and eleven living, their father also surviving. The children who survive their mother are: M. L. Byers, Newville; Charles Byers, Mrs. John Gusler, Harry Byers, Miss Pearle Byers and John Byers, this place; E. J. Byers, York; A. P. Byers, Wila; Mrs. W. E. Miller, Harrisburg; S. F. Byers, Steelton; David Byers, York. She leaves 28 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and the following brothers and sisters: Ananias Burd and Mrs. Sarah Woodward, this place; Wesley Burd, Denver, Lancaster county; John W. Burd, Camphill; Joseph Burd, Markelville; A. J. Burd, Pinegrove, Miller township; Mrs. Alice Albright and Mrs. Mary Meisenhelter, Harrisburg.
Funeral services will be conducted at the house on Sunday at 2 p. m., by Rev. M. W. Stahl, pastor of the Newport United Evangelical church. The interment will be in Newport Cemetery, the eight sons being the pallbearers.
