A second-degree murder charge has been filed against a 26-year-old man who is alleged to have shot a homeless man in Ravenna Park last week.

According to the charge filed in King County Superior Court on Monday, witnesses told police that Timothy James Murray and two friends were "smoking weed and drinking beer" on March 8 when Murray decided to go to the other side of the park, where he knew the victim and a friend could be found, to pester them.

Murray and his two friends confronted Alpha Lake Rajai, 59, and a cohort, charging documents allege, and Murray told the two homeless men to get on the ground.

When Rajai refused to, and picked up a stick to fight back, Murray shot him, charging documents allege. Rajai died of his wounds at Harborview Medical Center.

In a pocket of Murray's coat, police said they found an unfired .40 caliber cartridge that matched the bullet that killed Rajai, court documents allege.

Murray is being held on $1 million bail in King County Jail and is set to be arraigned on March 26. Prosecutors say he could face 15 years in prison if convicted as charged.
