He was the son of John Jefferson Hawkins born 28 Nov 1839 Gasconade Co MO d. 23 March 1910 and Camelia Fannie McMinn who had married on 28 Oct 1866. His father John Jefferson Hawkins was a farmer and died from lobar pneumonia. He was buried in Robinson Cemetery, Hickory Co MO. His death cert listed his parents as Austin Hawkins and Sarah Hutton. Informant was his wife Fannie Hawkins.
Grace's parents left Missouri and moved to California. Grace and James Archer Hawkins are first found in the Apr 2 1910 census for Los Angeles, CA where her husband James was managing a barber shop. Later he became Deputy Sheriff in Kern Co KA. By 1930 he listed his employment as a wholesale fruit salesman.
James predeceased Grace, passing away on 30 Nov 1957. They had five children together. Grace remarried 18 July 1963 to George Mehrens b. 12 June 1887 NE d. 31 Oct 1979. Family said Grace chose to donate her body to science, the Loma Linda University.
