Wayne graduated from Berryton High School. He was a farmer/stockman in the Richland and Stull areas all of his life. He was a 4-H leader in the Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club, was a member of the Douglas County Extension Board and served on the Bromelsick Committee.
Wayne married Rosa Maxine Worthington on August 29, 1943 in Lecompton. She preceded him in death on December 24, 1998.
He was also preceded in death by one great-grandson, Jake Wayne Lathrom, his sister, Dayle Hutton and his three brothers, Vern, Bob, and Walter.
Survivors include one son, Mark W. (Kathy) Combs of Tecumseh, two daughters, Martha (Everett) Lathrom of Lawrence and Rosemary (Daryl) Schooler of Hiawatha, seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great- granddaughter.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Wayne will lie in state from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
