Norfolk, VA., June 13-Robert Freeman, seven years old, and the son of E. B. Freeman, a prominent lumber manufacturer, met with a sad and sudden death upon the operating table at St. Christopher Hospital today. The child walked down town with his father this morning, played around the office until noon, when he walked to the hospital on Freemason Street, for the purpose of submitting to the knife in a minor operation.
The little fellow was as brave as a lion when he faced the array of instruments and the awe inspiring paraphernalia of the operating room, and after a brief preparation, jumped upon the table and told the physicians he was ready for them. The doctors, Lomax Gwathmey and Kirkland Ruffin, conduct the institution. As the child was placed under the influence of ether, he struggled a little and accidentally lost his breath for a second.
In that brief period the drug overcame him and every attempt at resuscitation failed. The parents of the boy are overcome by grief, and the physicians are almost distracted by the horrible accident.
