Riley Augustus's birth is listed as March 12, 1892 in Alicia, Arkansas on the Gadberry family tree. Gus was a farmer and he taught music on the side.

Gus married Etta Richey around 1912 in Arkansas. Etta was born Sept. 17, 1890, she was two years older than Gus. Before his days were over, Gus fathered four children. His wife Etta also lived a short life and died from the Spanish Influenza in the early months of 1919. She had just given birth to an unnamed baby boy, but he also died as well (most likely of the flu). Etta’s death happened just five years prior to Gus’ passing. Etta died at about the same time as her sister-in-law Alta Delores (Gadberry) Prewitt during the Spanish Flu Epidemic that swept the area. Gus and Etta’s older three children were:

1. Leroy Gadberry was born Oct. 21, 1913 in Alicia, Arkansas. Leroy died Dec. 11, 1916 at the age of three years old.

2. Elvia Eunice Gadberry was born March 8, 1915 in Alicia, Arkansas and died March 19, 1919 in Alicia, Arkansas at the age of four. *(Could this be Lillie E. Gadberry buried at Strangers Home Cemetery?)

3. Beatrice L. Gadberry (known as Bea) was born in 1916, in Alicia, Arkansas. Beatrice was the only surviving child of Etta Richey. Beatrice was only three years old when her mother died. She was eight years old when her father passed away. Bea moved to Michigan to live with one of her mother’s relatives.

After Etta’s death, Gus remarried to Ila Mae Rowe. Together, they had one more child before Gus passed away:

4. Harold Wayne Gadberry was born on August 7, 1921. He was commonly known as Wayne, and went by H. Wayne. He grew up and married Stephie Pecylak of Rochester, New York. Harold Wayne passed away in Franklin Park, New Jersey from hypertension caused by diabetes.
