At the age of 78, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully after a serious illness. He was born to Edgar and Azuba Alder on March 1, 1926 in Preston, Idaho and has lived a full, active and fruitful life. He married LuDean Bailey in the Logan Temple on June 2, 1948. He then began his career as an educator, with a combined total of seven years as an English teacher at Beaver County High School and Lehi High School and 36 years as a Professor of English at Brigham Young University. In addition to being an excellent educator, he was a member of the SCERA Board for almost 40 years and served in various capacities, including Board Chairman. He was also very active in politics and served for many years as a Democratic Precinct Chairman in the Orem City precinct and as the Utah County Democratic Party Chairman. In more recent years, he was an active member of Golden Kiwanis and served in various capacities, including President. He also served for two years on the Utah State Liquor Commission. His LDS Church callings included Stake Sunday School Superintendent, High Priests Group Leader, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Stake Missionary, Ward Clerk and First Counselor in his ward Bishopric. For over 20 years, he was a Certified Track Official in three different organizations - NCAA, TAC and AAU - and also spent many hours coaching Little League Baseball over a period of seven years.
