In 1866, Simon Peter (referred to often as Peter Bishop) moved to Kansas and settled on a farm in Fremont Twp. On 1 May 1867 they took possession of a farm 1/2 a mile east of the Rinker schoolhouse, which stayed in the family for a long time, by 1944 belonging to James Marion Bishop.

Died right after eating breakfast. Life long Methodist and Democrat. Justice of the Peace for 29 years, on Rinker school board 15 years. Services will be at the First Presb. church in Emporia.

Born in Brown Co, Ohio. Enlisted in 2nd Ohio Regiment for Mexican War in Nov 1846, served until July 1848. Was in many principal engagements under Gen. Winfield Scott, marched with the army from Vera Cruz to the capital. His Col. was William Irwin; his Captain John W. Law. In March 1853 married Maria Woodruff in Ohio. Mr. Bishop raised a company in Illinois during the Civil War, but due to the illness of his wife, he did not go to front. 5 children born, one daughter deceased. Brother D. H. Bishop lives in Washburn, Ill. There are 11 grandchildren and 1 ggrandchild.

Simon P. Bishop, age 22, was a private in 2nd Ohio Volunteer infantry, C Company, under Capt. John Lowe, enlisted 1 Sept 1847 and mustered out with the company on 25 July 1848.

The Emporia News - Thursday, March 29, 1883 - "Wedding Anniversary - On the evening of March 22d the neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Bishop of Fremont township, to the number of about seventy-five, by invitation repaired to their residence to assist in celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary. All were received by the kind host and hostess in such a way as to make the evening full of enjoyment to all present. During the evening a splendid oyster supper was served with all the necessary appendages to make it first-class throughout. This part was presided over by Marion Bishop and wife who fully understood their duties, the cakes being the very best that could be produced. Soon after the guests arrived the many presents brought by them were exhibited and admired by all. The following is a complete list of the gifts: Elegant lamp and mat, Mr. and Mrs. and James and Lena Fife. Set of china plates, Mrs. Jane ? Guriny. Set of china cups and saucers, Mr. and Mrs. John Hammond. Spoon holder and butter knife, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Klock. Cake stand, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hollingsworth.
