She was originally interred in the long defunct Abbey Mausoleum in Arlington, Va. just south of and across the street from Arlington National Cemetery. The site now has US Marine Corps building on it.

She was the daughter of Civil War General William B. Curtis. Graduate of Bethany College, W. Va., Kings School of Oratory, Pittsburgh, Pa., and West Liberty Teachers College, Athens, W. Va. Prior to coming to Washington, D.C. in 1916, she had taught at both West Liberty Teachers College and States Teachers College in Athens, W. Va.
