Born on the family farm in Lake View Township, Cook Co. she was the older of two children of Henry (Heinrich, Jr.) and Mary Olson SHANK (SCHENK). Lillian married Carl F. Hoagland, probably in Roberts, IL in 1914.

Their eldest child, Pearl, grew up. The other three children died as infants. Wendell lived only 3 days. Although they spent almost all their lives on a farm north of Chicago, all were buried in the Hoagland family plot in Ford Co.

NOTE: some records give LIllian's death as Dec. 15. Tombstone says Dec. 4.

Thanks to Carolyn Wilson for finding the two daughters buried in unmarked graves.
