William Henry Anderson was chr. Willian Henry Needham, Bolsover Parish, England. Name changed before his marriage. Per the marrage certificate Eliza Ann Sparrow married William Henry Henderson. This indicated that William, born Needham, Married as Henderson, later became Anderson.
Per the 1871 British census William Needham (Anderson) was a private soldier in the barracks at Aldershot, Hampshire. Details are: 2nd Battalion 2nd Regiment Cheshire Regiment, posted at Aldershot, Hampshire, Ref RC10 818 folio 67. William Needham, Unmarried, age 22 years, rank Private, Born Bolsover, Derbyshire. The Colonel in charge of the regiment was David Anderson, age 49, born in Scotland. William may have changed his name to Anderson because of this. It appears from the 1861 Census that his father, Mathew, married Mary Jane Smith a few years after moving to Shefield. William's Mother Ann Wood Wild died in 1857 at age 33. Matthew registered her death, which was due to puerperal fever, a complication of child birth. As no child of the right age appears on the 1861 census to the Needham family. I presume that the baby must have been stillborn or died shortly after birth. William may not have wanted to be part of the Needham Family beacuse of this.
