Sally was the daughter of William and Hazel McMurdo. She grew up in Whitefish and moved to Fairfield before returning to Whitefish in 1960. She was active in the Mountain Trails Saddle Club, and was Gala Days Rodeo Queen. She attended business college in Spokane, Wash., and returned to the Flathead. She was married to Wayne Pierce in 1969, in Nevada. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
