Born on July 23, 1916 in Detroit Michigan to recent immigrants from Greece - John and Mary Atos - George grew up with his two older sisters, Annie and Mary. He served his country with honor in World War II, as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
After his service was complete, George made his way to California with his family, eventually settling in Oceanside. As the owner and general manager of the Mission Bowl Bowling Alley from 1960 to 1979, George was an active member in the local business community and local civic organizations such as the Optimists, the Elks and the Kiwanis.
George and his wife of 42 years - Mary Alice Atos - loved to travel and to entertain. George could routinely be found in the kitchen, cooking up another new dish for large, and lively, dinner party.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice and his son, John Atos. He is survived by this daughter, Connie Costanzo; his two grandchildren, David (Georgie) Krajicek, and Kelli (Chaise) Fowler; and his four great-grandsons, John, Chaise, Matthew and James.
Rosary and viewing will be held from 5 pm to 7pm on Thursday, November 6, at Eternal Hills Mortuary in Oceanside.
