Doris Maxine Sheffey Collins, 86, of Wytheville passed away Friday, June 8, 2012. She was the daughter of the late James Price and Maggie Williams Sheffey, and the great-granddaughter of the late Robert Sawyers Sheffey. She was a member of Wilderness Road DAR, Daughters of the Confederacy, Wythe County Historical Society, and Mt. View United Methodist Church, where she was the treasurer for over 40 years. Mrs. Collins was a retired cafeteria manager for the Wythe County School System.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Elbert Collins; three sisters, Virginia Hoback, Norfa McAllister, Lois Williams Sheffey; two brothers, Harry Eugene Sheffey and Hiley "Preach" Sheffey.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Elbert W. Collins, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter and Emma "Susie" Collins, Franklin Ralph and Teresa Collins, all of Wytheville; her daughter-in-law, Winefred Gross; sisters, Leitha Richardson, Thelma Cutshaw, Ann Richardson; grandchildren and spouses, Regina Alley, Kimberly Collins, Jamie and Amy Collins, Stacy Nunley, Tonya Cave, Joseph "Bubba" and Wendy Collins, Crystal and Brendon Jewel, Joshua Collins, Leanne Hyler, Danelle "Nellie" Collins, Ashley Nunley; stepgrandchildren, Jeanette Hale, Sarah Hale; great- grandchildren, Scott, Jake, Jeb, Jesse, Lydia, Landyn, Elias, Sawyer, Acelon, Alijah, Ariana, Jamen, Caleb, Draven, Michael, Austin. Numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Tuesday June 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Aubrey Whitlow, the Rev. Roger Crigger, and the Rev. Vicki Neese, with the interment in Mt. View UMC Cemetery. the family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home Monday June 11, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. Flowers would be appreciated or donations be made to The Mt. View United Methodist Church. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
