"Rosa Evelyn Ray Cordell, age 92, former Coleman resident, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Canyon Lake, Texas. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Elm Street Church of Christ, 216 W. Elm Street, Coleman, with Britt Farmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home, Coleman.

"She was born Rosa Evelyn Ray on March 25, 1926, in Silver Valley, Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of George Leonard Ray and Charity Eveline Gowens Ray. She grew up in Coleman where she attended school. For 15 years she worked at the Ray Food Market in Coleman. On January 21, 1958 she married Jerold J. Cordell in Brownwood and they celebrated 43 years of marriage. Following their marriage, Evelyn and Jerold lived in Ballinger where she worked at the Mercer Shoe Factory and later while living in New Braunfels she worked at Liz Ann’s Dress Factory, as well as being a homemaker. She returned with her husband to Coleman in 1991. Following his death in 2001, Evelyn lived in the Houston area and Canyon Lake with her children. While living near Houston, she attended Pearland Church of Christ. In Coleman, she was a member of the Elm Street Church of Christ. She was a person who was full of personality and fun and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

"She is survived by her children, Rosa June Holloway and husband Larry of Pearland, Diana Lynn Cordell of Spring Branch, Guy Leonard Cordell and wife Cathie of Canyon Lake; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

"She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Ida Chaney, two brothers, George Ray and Willis Ray.

"Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas."
