he was the son of the late Dr. Claude O'Hara Akin and Fannie Robertson Akin.

An alumnus of Butler High School, University of Kentucky and M.I.T. with a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, he served during World War II as an engineer on the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He retired from Tennessee-Eastman in Kingsport, Tenn., in 1978.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Akin Crider, and a brother, Claude Allison Akin

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Princeton, Ky.
