ASHLAND, Wis. - Robert A. Bianchi, 86, of Lake Gogebic, Marenisco, Mich., died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born July 26, 1925, in Ironwood, Mich., son of the late Valentine and Emma (Forte) Bianchi, and graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy on Oct. 21, 1943, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II, and was honorably discharged on May 14, 1946. He then re-entered the Navy on June 5, 1951, during the Korean Conflict, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 2, 1952.

Following his discharge, Bob returned to Ironwood and worked in the Geneva Mine until it closed. He then was self-employed in furnace installation, retiring in 1987.

Bob was a member of Ironwood American Legion Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3673 in Bessemer, Mich. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for walleyes on Lake Gogebic.

He was married to Marion Smith on Sept. 26, 1947, in Hurley. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1988.

He then married Shirley Wisber in 1992 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Ironwood. She preceded him in death in 1998.

Surviving are a brother, Francis (Shirley), Ironwood; sister-in-law, Ruth Bianchi, Minneapolis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by brothers, Angelo and Raymond; sisters, Mary Facchinello and Irene Bianchi; a sister-in-law, Alice Bianchi; and brother-in-law, Emanuel Facchinello.

Per Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Ironwood.
