Obitaury: Florence Selway, 76, DILLON — Florence Selway died Sunday after a brief illness. She was born April 6, 1926, in Salt Lake City to Clyde " Cass" and Ethel Casterline. In May 1926 the family moved to Dillon where her father was the freight agent for the Railway Express, Union Pacific Railroad. She met Emerson Selway while she was in high school. It was a match that was meant to be as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 28, 2001. Her family was the joy of her life. She was always cooking one of her special soups or other goodies for her family and friends. Her special love was being with her husband, three children, six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren, who all loved and adored her and who will miss her greatly. Florence had many interests. For 14 years she was the local distribution manager for The Montana Standard, a job she inherited from her father. She enjoyed working with and helping young people. Many of the paper carriers still come back to visit. Among her many interests, she loved bowling, taking pictures, playing cards, staying at their Elkhorn cabin, watching deer and bluebirds and looking at the beautiful view of Sawtooth. She loved camping with family and friends and traveling, which she and Emerson did quite a lot of as they went to Hawaii, Australia, Europe and around the United States. In all those travels she never met a stranger. Because of her bubbly warm personality she was soon friends with every one she met. She will be remembered most for the exquisite jewelry she made. She loved to create one-of-a-kind pieces. She put her heart and soul into every piece. Her finely crafted and designed jewelry is worn by people all over the country. Florence was active in many organizations through out the years. She belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, American Legion, Diana Rebekah Lodge, Women's Bowling Association and Beaverhead Home Demonstration Club. She was on the Drug Prevention Board and served as a board member for the Bicentennial Apartments. She was one of the longest-serving election judges in Dillon.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Jay and Brant.
She is survived by her loving husband, Emerson; son Dr. Stephen Selway and Fran; son, Ronald Selway and wife Juanita; daughter, Lynnette Macioroski and husband Joe; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Brundage Funeral Home with burial to follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Memorials: American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Barrett Memorial Hospital or charity of one's choice.
