JoAnn Carol Schwartz, age 91, of Nappanee, passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 at Signature Healthcare, Bremen. She was born March 13, 1928 to Delbert and Juanita Leeper in Bremen.

JoAnn was a 1945 graduate of Grovertown High School. On May 28, 1948 she married Ray Schwartz in Bremen. He preceded her in death August 1, 2011.

She is survived by her children, Kent Schwartz, Indianapolis, IN, Kurt Schwartz, Syracuse, IN, Kris Trachsel, Nappanee; grandchildren, Jason (Ericka) Schwartz, Angela (Keith) Kip-Kellogg, Tim Trachsel, Megan Trachsel; great-grandchildren, Guile Kipp, Gaven Kipp, Grace Kipp, Jaime Schwartz, Mya Schwartz, Karsen Kellogg, Audrey Schwartz; siblings, Gail Teghtmeyer, Bremen, Bill Leeper, Bremen, and Sandy (Phil) Anderson, Bremen. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Merl Leeper; sister, Sue Snyder-Lunn; infant twin granddaughters and great-granddaughter.

JoAnn formerly co-owned and managed with her husband Ray two family businesses, Ray’s Floor Covering and the Sears Store in downtown Nappanee. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, served in many capacities including two terms as President of the United Methodist Women’s Association. She also served as the District President. Most recently, she served on the Thrift Shop and Mission Committees. However, her favorite assignment was supervising and caring for the babies and infants in the church nursery.

JoAnn had a self-less care and concerning spirit. Her love and nurturing extended well beyond just her personal and church family. She was loved by many.

Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 10, 2020 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral at Nappanee United Methodist Church, Tuesday, February 11th. Rev. Kevin Reed will officiate. Burial will be in South Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Nappanee United Methodist Church.
