He was a graduate of Yale College - class of 1818, taught in schools for the deaf at Hartford, CT, Canajoharie, NY, subsequently entering the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. He preached in Tyngsborough and Amherst, MA and served as City Missionary in Washington, DC. He was deeply interested in the Colored Race, served for some years as Secretary of the Afrian Education Society, and edited a publication devoted to the advancement of that cause. He lived for a time at Medford and finally at Amherst, MA.
