MARY E. STOCKWELL

Mary Elizabeth Stockwell, daughter of Andrew Liffick, was born May 7, 1852, and departed this life April 26, 1924, aged 71 years, 11 months and 18 days.

She was born at St. Mary of the Woods, Ind. At an early age her father settled on a farm near Marshall where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 11, she united with the Baptist Church and was baptized with 50 others at the Wabash River. Several years later she united with The Church of God at Cooper Chapel and has always lived a ???? Christian ???.

February 16, 1871 she was untied in marriage to Albert Stockwell. To this union were born ten children; Minnie Liffick, Sophfonia Pine, Nora Horsley, Lou Robison, Nellie Stoelting, Bruce, Ben and Zearn and an ???? preceding her into the great beyond.

Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to take Him at his word
Just to lean upon his promise
Just to know thus a ??? the lord

The funeral was conducted by Rev. F. S. Taylor, assisted by Rev. ?? Eckles.

Mary Elizabeth Liffick was born in Vigo County, Ind., May 7, 1852 and departed this life April 26, 1924, 71 years, 11months and 18 days.

She was married to Albert Stockwell, February 16, 1871. She was a member of the Church of God at Coopers Chapel. She gave her heart to God when she was 13 years of age and lived a true and devoted Christian.

Aunt Sis, as she was called by all her knew her lived a life of joy and gladness and always had a kind word for everybody. Several months ago she was taken ill from which death replied. All through her suffering she bore it with patience and God called her home to rest.

She leaves to mourn her departure, the husband and three sons, Ben at Gas City, Ind., Bruce and Zearn of near Marshall; six daughters, Miss Minnie Liffick, Mrs. Jennie Anderson of near Walnut Prairie and Mrs. Nora Hersley of Montana, Mrs. Nellie Stoelting and Lou Robertson of State Line and Sophroda Pine of Terre Haute. Two brothers, Joe and Sherman Liffick of near Marshall and one sister, Mrs. Cyrus Thompson of Terre Haute, twenty-one grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren besides a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were conducted at the South Vigo Church by Rev. Taylor and assisted by Rev. Bert(?) Eckles and she was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby. Her grandson Russell Stockwell sang a solo conducted by Mrs. Ben Stockwell at the organ.

Thy eyes closed
Thy voice stilled
Thy hands are folded over thy breast
While mother lies at rest.
