Cleo was born on Nov. 19, 1915, in Putnam County, MO., the daughter of Charles and Stella Musgrove Adamson. On Feb. 7, 1942, she married Burl M. Scherer in Lancaster, Mo., and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2007.
She attended the Wells School near Chariton, MO. As a young girl, Cleo worked in several homes, often taking care of the children. As a adult, she worked at Ottumwa Tent & Awning, The Canteen restaurant and as a homemaker and farm wife. In 1949, she and her husband left Ottumwa to move to their farm, where they row cropped, milked cows and raised hogs. They retired on the farm and lived there until Burl passed away, at which time Cleo moved to Prairie Hills Assisted Living Center in Ottumwa.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne(Patricia)Scherer of Eldon and James(Ginerger)Scherer of Altoona; four granddaughters; two grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; three stepgranddaughters; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three infant children, three brothers and six sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Friday at the Eldon Christian Church; with Brother Dave Lowden officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 pm Thursday at Grace Funeral Care in Eldon, where the family will be present for visitation from 5-7 pm. A memorial fund is being established for Hospice of Davis and Wapello Counties or for the Eldon Christian Church.
