John Crittenden was born in Burwash, Sussex England and christened 5 Jan 1750 in the same town. He immigrated to Virginia in 1770. John served in the 11th Virginia Regiment of the Contenintal Army in the Northwest Territories and for his faithful survice was given a land grant in Kentucky after the war.
His wife is related to the Jefferson's of Virginia, Capt Thomas Jefferson 1677-1730 being her great-grandfather.
They established a "plantation" just outside of Versailles, Kentucky. John died when a tree fell on him while he was working his land. They had nine children: Harriett, John, Thomas, Margaret, Henry, Obedience, Robert, Caroline, Lucy.
This is a very distinguished family in American History.
