Mary Abell was one of eight children born to Daniel Abell and his wife Sarah Crane of CT.

Mary Abell married Jared Clark, also of CT, in December of 1754. Mary and Jared had nine children before his death in 1775; Philotha, Jared, Mary, Simon, Abel, Ambrose, Cyrus, Cyrenus and Solomon.

After Jared Clark's death Mary married her cousin Zebulon Metcalf, a widower with seven children.
Sometime before 1800 Mary and Zebulon and their families moved west to the wilderness of Otsego County NY (where some of her children had already settled with their families)

With her second husband, Mary lived in the hills above Lake Otsego in an area known as the Metcalf Settlement.
After her husband's death in 1802 Mary may have resided with her daughters Philothia(Kellogg) and Mary(Warren)in Pierstown.
