Herbert M. Niner, 88, of Red Wing and formerly of Faribault, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at the Fairview Red Wing Seminary Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, Red Wing. Visitation is set for 5-8 p.m. today at the Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing, with a Legion prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Herbert M. Niner, the son of Michael and Albertine (Kenow) Niner, was born June 12, 1912, in Faribault. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Faribault, and attended Trinity Lutheran School through the eighth grade. He married Frances Haberle on April 4, 1942. they were divorced in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific from May 1942 until November 1945. He worked at Nutting Truck and Caster in Faribault until he moved to Red Wing in 1958. He married Ruth Anderson Karow in Red Wing on Jan. 18, 1958. She died on Dec. 10, 1988. He is survived locally by one sister, Bernice Pommeranz of Faribault; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Niner of Faribault. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, seven sisters, two brothers, and four other infant brothers and sisters. Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church, Red Wing, or the donors choice.
