COLUMBUS -- Henry A. Allen, 83, of Columbus, died at 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, at the Medicalodge of Columbus, where he had been a resident for one month.
He was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Cherokee County, to John and Ruth Todd Allen. He attended Stone City Rural School and was a lifelong Cherokee County resident.
He married Violet Ginther, on May 26, 1949, at Berryville, Ark. She preceded him in death in 1973.
He married Vinita Clevenger Coble, on Aug. 23, 1974, at Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.
He was a farmer for 57 years, beginning at the age of eight.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Bethlehem Methodist Church at rural Columbus.
Additional survivors include a son, Patrick Allen of West Mineral; a step-son, James Coble of Columbus; three step-daughters, Donna Sill of Webb City, Mo., Rugh Hageman of Brentwood, Tenn., April Douthit of Miami, Okla.; two brothers, Clint Allen of Girard and John D. Allen of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Delyte Cook of Parsons; Darlene Foley of Lancaster, Ky.; Fern Taylor of Liberty, Mo.; Erlene Spriggs of Parsons; and Eilene Dillinger of Scammon; 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Shirley Fanska; a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cherokee Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Parsons officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Murdock Funeral Home at Columbus.
