James then married Rutha Copeland on Aug 27,1865. She and James had five children: Emaline (1866-), Joseph (1869-1955), Charlie (1876-1953), Barney (1878-1965), and Harmon (1882-)
According to story: Even though James had relatives buried in the community cemetery (Cave Springs Cemetery), James refused to be buried there due to the rumor that a slave was buried in that cemetery, even though James and Rutha owed a slave. Therefore, James first buried Rutha on his farm and he later was buried on his farm.
