John *Oarley [Orley] Barnes
ELMWOOD (Special) - John *Oarley [Orley] Barnes was born May 20, 1876, to George Washington and Deborah Hamlin Barnes near Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa, and died at Ebeler Nursing Home, Elmwood, Nov. 7 at 93.
April 25, 1915, he was united in marriage to Virginia Leone Harlan at Smith Center, Kans.. They lived near Bedford, Iowa, until 1920 when they moved to Smith Center, Kans..
They had four daughters, Ruth Esther, who died at 6 months; Doris Leona, who died at 14 years and Helen Marie (Mrs. Wilbur) Dillon of Juniata, Neb., and Marjorie Lee (Mrs. Bert) Densberger of Alvo, Neb..
May 28, 1937, his wife Leone died at the age of 51. He continued farming and kept a home for his two daughters. He moved to Alvo in 1961 where he remained until he entered the nursing home in 1936.
Preceding him in death were a brother, five sisters, his wife, two daughters and two grandchildren, Ronald Lewis and Mary Lou Dillon.
He is survived by daughter Helen and her husband Wilbur Dillon and Marjorie and her husband Bert Densberger, five grandchildren, Margaret, Colleen, Peggy and Michael Dillon and Joe Densberger; a sister, Mrs. Goldie Straight of Sharpsburg, Iowa, and two brothers A. R. Barnes and G. C. Barnes of Ottawa, Kans..
Clements-Dorr Funeral Home had charge of arrangements and services with further services at Smith Center, Kans..
The Rev. Lester Bolleson officiated at the Alvo Methodist services, with Bonnie Timblin as organist and Jackie Visger as soloist.
Pallbearers were Floyd Nobbe, Myron Myers, Ward Odell, Gerald Estes, Harold Yohn and William Stump.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery at Smith Center.
