Just a week from the time that he walked to Oaklawn cemetery behind the hearse containing the body of his mother, George Mitchell, aged 23, was found dead at the bottom of a creek near Skiatook at 12 o'clock yesterday. Mitchell was drowned in the swollen waters of the creek Wednesday night, when, together with two other men, he attempted to ford the stream in a wagon. The horses were drowned and Mitchell, being unable to swim, went to the bottom. The other two men saved themselves. Mitchell's body was brought to Tulsa last night. The funeral will be held tomorrow, under the auspices of the Moose Lodge and co. A, Oklahoma National Guard. He was a sergeant in the latter organization and will be buried with military honors. Mitchell's father died in Tulsa four years ago. His mother died last week. His grandmother, who came from Wisconsin to attend the funeral is still in the city and was intending to leave for home next Monday. Mitchell's 15-year-old brother is a student in the Tulsa high school. Mitchell was employed for a long time in the circulation department of The World. Later he took charge of the soda fountain at the Quaker Drug store and for the past few months he has been lease foreman for the Barnsdall Oil Company. He was an extremely popular young man in the city and had a wide circle of acquaintances.
