Son of Frederick Plummer Staples and Lucy Vickery. Stonemason by trade. Died at the Old Soldiers Home, Malden, MA. Served during the Civil War as a Private in Company F, 56th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment from March 1, 1864 until July 12, 1865. Wounded in action at the Battle of the Wilderness, May 7, 1864. Hospitalized until August 11, 1864. Returned to regiment and participated in the remainder of the regiment's campaigns in Virginia.
